Poetry – The indefinite wait

The indefinite wait

This longing follows her everywhere

She drowns it with excessive words and actions

Inappropriate and reckless.

Slightly nervous, she sees him walking by

She stutters, fumbles and goes mute

Waiting for a glance

Waiting for a moment

Her vulnerability scares her

Her throbbing heart bewilders her

Gasping for breath

She looks unto him

His rationed words

Test her patience and desire

She surrenders to the futility

And whispers, I love you

And then the questions arise

Will she, does he, Will they

The possibility calms her for a while

And then she realises love is all but a pesky burden

And all she needs to do, is let go and let it be

A busy life beckons and the indefinite wait continues

Its going to be a cold winter night again

A lonely house to return to

A tear stained pillow awaits

And an insomniac continues to dream
